about
I wrote this one sitting on a porch in island Belize, at the tail end of an eight-month solo travel adventure, while feeling simultaneously liberated and disturbingly rootless. It goes out to travelers everywhere.
lyrics
Temple
I could fly across a continent to outrun the demons in me
I could travel with my home inside my heart to find out what it means to be free
I could listen to the music of the ocean as She sings to me
Should I return to where I’m known
To where I’m loved, to where I’m home
Is there a home for me
Should I find a place to rest
A place to lay my weary head
The world keeps calling me
It just keeps calling me
I could make a thousand friends, see the world from end to end
And there’s so much to see
I could feed on all the beauty of this life.
What more could I need?
I could stand out where the waves are breaking
Feel the wind coming in from the sea
I could continue on this ride
I could flow out with the tide
The tide keeps pulling me
But what of the love that’s in my heart
For people half a world apart
Where am I meant to be?
Where am I s’posed to be?
I could learn to leave my loneliness behind me
Be happy in my company
I could learn to give my worries to the water
Let the current take them out to sea
I could build myself a little temple where I’d always have a sanctuary
And I drink deeply of the well of many promises
The fountain never will run dry
And all the gratitude I feel makes the blessing seem more real
I’m blessed a hundred times
I’m blessed a thousand times
I’m blessed a million times
I could stand out where the waves are breaking
Feel the wind coming in from the sea
I could listen to the music of the ocean
As she sings to me (x3)
